Whitestar New server 1.2

I was having many days to think and look at patch notes aswell as at our World.

There are few things I would like to say,
We have put alot of work into our world. When I took a world to single player few days back to take a look I noticed many many many many many bugs. Missplaced block, cut off parts of land warping mobs etc.
We also have winter all the time due to georaphical coords of our village.
Since 1.1 and 1.2 many cool new features were introduced to MC that we simply wont have couse our server is same since beta stages.

I asked few people from WS who play MC still and we would like to start from scratch. Put server on creative mode or not even. Find a good place for us in some 'warm' climate. And start over.

Here is my question ... couse I know many people have put alot of work into what we got now. Is it possible?

I'm fine with that.
But if we strat from scratch, I really would like us to have a community project. There is different possibilities, both in survival and creative.

The collons (survival)
We start like stranded guys in a new world. We build a small village first to protect ourselves, then we improve it step by step. Some might go and explore the world. Some miight want to study magie. And maybe one day we will make a civilisation.
For this project, we really should start all together along a Minecraft event, and try to organise events.

Themed buildings (survival or creative)
We choose a theme and we respect this theme. Could be Middle Age, Modern or futurist. Everyone build his own building in a city that we kinda plan to build together.

Our creative world.
I've been starting in a solo game a 1001 Night Palace, in a large desert facing the Jungle. Creative project is a different game and allow more ambitious projects. This can be really fun aswell, but in a different way than a survival game. It would only be over the construction, aestetic, and not the usefulness, protection, and use of Minecraft features.

For this, we could really start a common project. Or everyone choose an emplacement on the map and create his own city.

I wouldn't mind starting a new server on creative mode or so. Sounds pretty fun. Most of my studies are over anyway and I can play MC more.

The winter biome kinda screwed up a lot unfortunatly Sad

Just that since beta release there have been MANY chages and fun features we are deprived of couse of well old server.

I've been playing minecraft in single player for a while now to experience and experiment with all the new stuff that is there. Would love to play with all these new features online together with all of ye. Specially since i havent done anything lately with whitestar (mostly due to RL though).

And since i trust all of you, I'm game for whatever you decide What a Face

This does sound interesting to me as well. I was thinking i should try out minecraft sometimes, and that sounds like fun. :)

1) That "ugly program" would be hamachi, or what?
2) Can't "external ip" be solved simply by port-forwarding? Or am i missing something with how the hosting works?

Until now we have done a server through hamachi, cause it's the easiest way to do.
But if someone want to propose another alternative, just say it. I think unfortunately other kind of server requiere to be paid.

Well my ISP cyckles IP every 24hours so I cant do that without Hamachi. Sad

Well, that doesn't happen to me. :P
Maybe i can help? As i mentioned, i have never played minecraft before, let alone run a server, but if it would help, i can always try.

What annoy me the most is that snow have started to invade our map. And I've no clue why it happened in that way. If you have noticed, snow have come in all place we build something.

If we want to make a new Minecraft server, I think we should take the time to know more from a technical point of view. We could have a better server. I just really don't have the time to study the question, so if someone else could do that, it would be awesome.


We get a proper server
We fix our rules to not make it crash (I think Nether travel with different portal, is not a good thing, even if it's fun) and to be freed from snow.
We decide what we want to do.
We fix the event once everything else is fixed.

Hm, I do not have much experience at all with minecraft hosting stuff, but I do have some spare time on my hands for a few days, and could look into it.
I'm sure we can get things going properly if hultay is still up for hosting it Rolling Eyes

As i mentioned, i can help with the server if needed. I have never done it before, but i have a good internet connection (100/100) and I'm not completely clueless when it comes to networking stuff, atleast. :P

There are some guides on how to set up a server on the minecraft wiki, and it does not look THAT difficult. So it should be doable. :)

Do you have a dynamic or static IP? Cause that's the main problem.
Since most has a dynamic one, you'll have to change the IP for the server like every 24 hour or whatever.

I'm unsure, actually. Most have a dynamic, as said, but i know my brother had a server-machine running for a couple of years, and that would not have worked with a dynamic IP, although that was a little while ago. Will have to check up on it.

Well I got 'static ip' in 'dynamic pool' Razz if u wanna call it that Razz but basicly most of us have nowadays cycling IPs ;( So what I got 256/128 if my IP can change ;(

And also a note... if someone wants to host it I dont mind ... just mind that we need daily backups and PC on 24/7 ... and MC server can take ALOT of resources with many people online at same time.

Backups is not a problem, and i have an okay computer, so i don't think resources should be a problem. A real problem tho, is that i can not leave it on. My PC is in my bedroom, so it's not really an option for me to leave it running overnight. It gives me trouble sleeping.
Mayyyybe i could get the server-machine running again, it is in the basement still... not sure tho. Turned it off a while ago cause it sounded like a fecking jackhammer, so i think some of the hardware is a bit worn out. :P

We could also use a Canary/bukkit server for a new world to deal with the annoying endermen destroying buildings (and creepers maybe) and allow for more control and easier building for big Projects so the creative people can build to their hearts extend so we done have to split the dynamic number of people playing MC on two servers
