Amani
Amani
"Honorable and ferocious defenders of freedom"
Enslaved by conquering giants and freed by the goddess Kaia with the help of the castanics, the amani value freedom above all things. They are naturally watchful and slow to trust, but having earned their trust, you will have it until you prove faithless. You really don't want to do that.
Amani are direct in speech and action, honest, candid, and somewhat imperious. They are usually respected, often admired, sometimes feared. No one doubts they will say what they mean, do what they say, and make life very hard on their enemies.
"Honorable warriors from the race with savage instincts"
The Amani have historically been a savage race that has known constant war since the dawn of time. As slaves they fought as conquerors, but after freeing themselves they have learned to temper their primal instincts and now battle for peace. Today, the Amani are a noble and honorable race that upholds freedom and self sacrifice. They now use their brute strength and hardened bodies to protect themselves and their allies from any and all threats.
Amani are unique in appearance and are unknown of in other fantasy MMOGs.
History
Created by the god Amarun, the amani are fierce soldiers. They once fought a protracted war with the devas (and their goddess Zuras), which only ended when Karas (patron of the elves) enforced a peace and forbade both gods from interfering further with their battles. Weakened by the conflict, they were absorbed and enslaved by the expanding empire of the giants while Amarun looked on helplessly.
Eventually freed from slavery by the intervention of the gods Kaia, Lok, and the ingenuity of the castanics, the amani learned quickly the value of cooperation. They came to the defense of Essenia during the incursion of the high elves, and later joined the fledgling Valkyon Federation during the Argon war, dedicating themselves wholeheartedly to the principles of racial unity.
Amani Quotes
- "They aren't gonna stab themselves!"
- "What's the worst that could happen?"
- "Is that all ya got?"
Race Relations
• Baraka: "They aren't like the giants; all the same, it's hard to trust them."

• Elins and Poporis: "No idea what these guys are thinking. Even when they explain it."

Baraka
Baraka
"Preservers of knowledge, living in balance."
The baraka are related to giants, but in turning their backs on the giants' wars of conquest, they avoided their progenitor’s doom on the Day of Flame. Baraka value knowledge of all kinds. They maintain libraries of the accumulated learning of their own people, as well as that of all the world’s races, in every city where they make their homes.
Despite their gentle nature and generally pacifistic philosophy, it would be a great error to suppose baraka are weaklings, for their other great hunger is for balance. Balancing mind and body means that every young baraka learns the arts of combat alongside the arts of knowledge. They are distinguished among all the world’s races for their fierce defense of the weak.
“Guardians of knowledge and protectors of the ancient heritage”
Descended from Giants, the Baraka (bah-RAH-kah) have massive physiques and highly-sophisticated intellects. They yearn most of all for knowledge, and are slow to anger, but are fierce fighters in the defense of the weak.
History
The race of giants was created by Tithus. The baraka clan had gone their own way long since, having chosen to walk a more peaceful path in the pursuit of knowledge. When the gods punished the giants for their ambitions with total annihilation on the Day of Flame, the baraka were spared. Since that time they've been welcome guests in the lands of many other races. The amani have traditionally kept their distance from the baraka because of the unhappy history between amani and giants, but with the new spirit of friendship fostered by the federation, even those old wounds are beginning to heal.
Baraka Quotes
- "By Oriyn's eyes!"
- "Keep safe the light."
- "Stone makes a good wall, but a poor heart."
Race relations
• Amani: "It is resilience that makes for true strength, and this the noble amani have in abundance."
• Castanics: "They are quick and clever, but loathe to wait, weigh, reflect, or consider."
• Elins and Poporis: "Do not be misled by their childlike stature and jolly faces; these are people you want at your back, not facing you on the field of battle."
• High Elves: "They are not easy to understand, these elves. They are lovers of knowledge who disdain libraries."
• Humans: "Humans are almost as precipitous as castanics, but with a more solid connection to the realities of the world."

Castanic
Castanics
"Fiery and independent, but committed to the vision of the Federation."
Castanics inspire more conflicting emotions than any other race in the world of TERA. Clever and skilled, castanics are also opportunistic and hot-tempered. A castanic never forgets a friend and never abandons an ally. They're also notoriously quick-tempered and have a tendency to decapitate first and accept apologies second.
The clan is famous for the skill of its artisans and crafters. They are also adept merchants—cunning negotiators who love the interplay of bargaining, and strive to come out on top in every deal.
“Viewed with suspicion but commited to finding a new destiny”
Since the demise of their demon god, the Castanics (Cuh-STAN-iks) have suffered prejudice and oppression. Independent and self-sufficient, resourceful and hardy, Castanics are inclined to depend upon their innate individual strengths yet make valuable allies.
History
Originally one of the clans of devas, the castanics fled their pitiless goddess and the necromantic overlords of the devan empire. Since that time, Clan Castanic has forged its own destiny, lived by its own dark code of honor, and carved out its place in history. Betrayed into creating an artifact that caused the death of a beloved god, most castanics have spurned the gods entirely, believing them not to be worth the trouble they cause, and that those who depend upon the gods are too cowardly to seize their own destiny. A small minority revere the amani goddess Kaia.
Castanic Quotes
- "Attack life—it's going to kill you anyway."
- "If one has not given everything, one has given nothing."
- "Words are cheap; blood is costly."
Race relations
• Amani: "If you're not castanic, you might as well be amani. Their word is good and they suck the marrow right out of the bones of life!"
• Baraka: "Baraka are like glaciers. Impossible to sway, harder to stop, but brought down easily with fire."
• Elins: "They can be cunning and manipulative, though not dishonest. Never forget, they're spirit made flesh. That's gotta be bad news."
• High Elves: "Don't trust them. For all their flowery talk and ceremony, there's a black heart at the center of the elves. You'll see."
• Humans: "An interesting race, humans. They're the uniters; they're the ones that bring many into one. So long as they don't stand in our way, fine."
• Poporis: "You never know what a popori's really thinking. They see things, know things they shouldn't. Damned creepy.”

Elin
Elin
"Don't underestimate our Nature as all beauty and innocence. Nature is also brutal and uncaring...at least about you."
The elins have one driving goal: if it’s not good for nature, stop it. Older and wiser than they appear, they join with forces of nature and mortal races to sweep their enemies from the battlefield. Their speech is often dark, forthright, and otherworldly, and their sense of humor can border on vicious. Other races find the elins' manner and behavior off-putting.
History
Building corporeal forms around tiny fragments of her own divine being, the goddess Elinu created the elins. Their physical appearance reflected the youngest daughter of Arun's naïve wish for beauty and peace. Their queen governs both the elins and the poporis, with whom they share a history and a mission. The queen and her forces have proven their wisdom and diplomatic prowess in peace, and their tactical and fighting prowess in war.
"Nature always finds a way. She is invincible!"
The fairy like Elin may look cute and naïve, but in reality they are wise creatures. These nature spirits protect the creations of the world with body and soul. Anyone who tries to harm nature will face the rage and animalistic energy of the Elin – and will realize what it is like to fear for their life.
Their protective instinct makes them a serious threat towards the Argon, as their inherent desire to defend nature is stronger than “annoying” moral constraints and ethical principles commonly seen in other races.
Elin Quotes
- "Why do you doubt it? Nature will win. Nature always wins."
- "Done fighting? Oh, dead now."
- "I'll see you again soon...unless you die."
Race relations
• Amani: "Courageous fighters. Good! They know 'Alone we're strong; together, we're stronger.' We do, too."
• Baraka: "Baraka weave ponderous pencil tunes of courage and time. Fine, but books about nature aren't as tasty as nature itself."
• Castanics: "Castanics care too much about themselves and too little about what matters—nature."
• High Elves: "Be cautious around a high elf. They, too, care too little about nature."
• Humans: "Humans are trying. Their duty to preserving people is understandable, but slightly misplaced—preserving life has a different meaning to them."
• Poporis: "Our trusted companions, the awakened!"

High Elves
High Elves
"Proud and powerful keepers of tradition."
The elves once lived lives dedicated to venerating nature and the gods. The "Children of Karas" maintained their forest homes in peace, but that changed when the conflicts of immortals destroyed their civilization and split a proud and powerful race into two factions.
Now, only the "High Elves" remain. After three thousand years of war, they withdrew from the world after a devastating loss against a force of allied races. This century of seclusion ended when the gates of Allemantheia opened to refugees fleeing the argon invasion, and the world took notice when the gates stayed open and produced an army to fight for the lives of all mortal races.
Though the elves bought their seat at the Valkyon Federation table with the blood of soldiers, many do not trust the "New Way," believing that their walled desert city holds many more secrets, and that the elves never gave up their conquering ways.
Proud and powerful keepers of tradition”
A thousand years ago, the Elves denounced the gods and burned old alliances. Sometimes described as arrogant and aloof, they prove their commitment to cooperation between the races by facing all opponents with wisdom and the knowledge gained through three thousand years of war.
History
A hundred years ago, the high elves invaded the human territory of Essenia. The amani, poporis, and baraka stood with the humans, and the elves were forced to abandon their conquest. It had been three thousand years since they had lost a war, and this defeat reverberated through the elven culture in a way thirty centuries of victories had not. They formed a new strategy of accommodation to the changes sweeping through the world, and embraced membership in the Valkyon Federation
Elven Quotes
- "This too will be remembered."
- "By the trust of Karas!"
- "For those forgotten, and yet to come!"
Race relations
• Amani: "The Amani are a strong, proud people. It is an honor to serve beside such individuals, knowing that their valor and honor protect us."
• Baraka: "Of all the other races, they alone share the pursuit of knowledge, though they chain it with books and letters. If there is no elf to ask, a baraka can answer."
• Castanics: "They stand at the front of the line of battle, willing to give blood and bone for the betterment of all."
• Elin and Poporis: "The poporis and elin are of the moment. Look three times and one will see three different things. Or not."
• Humans: "Humans are the water that shapes the world. Only a human could have envisioned such a thing as the federation—this wave which carries us all to the future."

Humans
Humans
"The force that binds the federation."
Cursed by their god to wander without a homeland, the humans turned their adversity to advantage by using their long exile as a learning experience. They studied the culture and crafts of other races, and forged their own destiny without guidance from their neglectful deity. Now, as creators of the Valkyon Federation, they are admired and respected by all the nations of the world for their role in bringing together the coalition that will defeat the argons and return the world to peace at last.
“Exemplars of vitality and aspiration”
After millennia of wandering, Humans use their valor, tenacity, and indomitable spirit to stabilize a world torn by war. They envision a new Tera where cooperation and harmony bring unprecedented prosperity and peace.
History
The race of humans was created by Gidd, who turned his back on them when they petitioned him for a homeland. When the first humans conspired to steal Gidd's priceless treasures, he cursed them to wander forever. As the Divine War drew to a close, the curse on the humans lifted. Velik, goddess of the hunt, took pity on the humans and granted them the homeland they’d long been denied. Their capital today is the beautiful city of wheels she created for them.
Race relations
• Amani: "Brave beyond question. At first suspicious, then loyal to a fault. They're hard-headed but great-hearted."
• Baraka: "All that knowledge, all that physical power, and what do they do with it? They serve. Patient as stones, eloquent as poets."
• Castanics: "They can be unstable, but their passion fuels a powerful engine of creativity. Greedy at times, but they keep their oaths. We share their drive, but not their fatalism."
• Elins: "Nature given flesh. Lively and impatient in the short term, but thinking centuries into the future. Easy to underestimate and hard to understand, but they know more at birth than most of us learn in a lifetime."
• High Elves: "The longest way to a straight answer is through an elf. Their indecision can be stifling, but once they make up their minds, they'll grind a mountain to sand with spoons to get the job done."
• Poporis: "They think of nature first, allies second, and mischief the rest of the time; it's not a party without a popori."
Human Quotes
- "Let us be judged for our deeds, not our words."
- "Better dying than failing."
- "Dare and believe!"

Popori
Popori
"Guardians of nature as fickle and deadly as Nature herself."
The popori nation is made up of two distinct races. The elin—small female humanoids—were created by the goddess Elinu out of her own divine essence. The popori are non-human beasts awakened to sentience by the elin. Both are small, and accustomed to not being taken seriously. Both are curious, candid, uncompromising, and utterly ferocious. Both are resolute and tenacious defenders of nature. They are quick to learn, and quick to judge. Losing a popori’s respect means you may never get an opportunity to regain it.
Powerful guardians of nature's balance”
The Popori (po-PO-ree) nation encompasses all the fierce animal guardians and the magical divine spirits living in the Kingdom of Poporion. Protectors of nature, they sense change and danger like no other race on Tera. Their unusual behavior and diminutive stature cause many to underestimate their ferocity in battle.
History
The Amanic War created deep scars on the continent of Arun. Elinu—the youngest dream-daughter of the Titan Arun—wept for her father’s pain and determined to protect him. From her own divine essence, she created the elin. When the task proved too much for the elin alone, they in turn awakened animals to create the popori. Together, they have worked to repair, protect, and preserve the world they live in.
Popori Quotes
- "Nature does as she will."
- "That cub is a bit damaged."
- "Just couldn't resist my stunning good looks, could you? Nature knows most can't."
Race relations:
• Amani: "They're direct. Good! Terse. Good again!"
• Baraka: "The stoic presence of the baraka emits a steady tempo. Their books sing a slow melody. This ponderous tune tells of courage."
• Castanics: "We taste fiery confidence in the castanics. Their let-me-at-them attitude also shows boundless courage."
• Elins: "Timeless allies of nature!"
• High Elves: "Their words may be honest, but it's best to keep a healthy suspicion of them all the same."
• Humans: "Human dedication to making the federation work is loyalty at its best."
