I want to play Tera

Today I will present you the game where I will lose my life in future. It's a long time since I've been this exited about a game, and if my friends follow me, Tera will be my new home, and replace definitively World of Warcraft and Rift. Every day I am searching for new information like a lost adventurer is searching water in the desert: Visiting different websites, reading forums about early theorycrafting,  looking at hundreds of videos and screenshots, and God, I so want a beta key!
But what's Tera?   
Tera is a Korean MMORPG developed by the studio BlueHole, currently westernized (the action of transforming an Asian grind feast into a civilized game including quest) and in closed beta, The game had been released in Korea in January, and we can expect a release in Europe this autumn.




The particularity of Tera is its combat system : the first true action MMO. Instead of tab targeting your victims, here you have to aim properly. You will have to position yourself, move, avoid with agility the attack of your enemy. The combat look very dynamic, intense and fun. You can forget already to watch your favorite series while you are grinding your levels, the game will requires all your attention. Even as healer (as it's my speciality I've obviously analyzed the situation) you will feel the change. No more raid frame, now you will have to shoot your heals on your team mates, or on the ground if it's an area spell, exactly like you were in a FPS. 
In addition of proposing a really new combat system, Tera also have its own style.Very Asian,very Manga, very colorful, fantastic and very very very sexy. Even a bit too much. I am already frowning at the idea of my boyfriend playing a female character and he could be equally jealous if I was playing a male. Well, I am not really serious, but I find this a tiny bit overdone and having a serious Otaku tendency.

However, we can only be stunned by the work they have put in the character and the armor design. Some outfits compete with the most eccentric realizations of Jean Paul Gauthier. The details are amazing and every fashionatas will enjoy the possibility to play with their characters like it was a dolly. Note that each race posses their own trousseau, that make a loooot of armors! 



 The game propose seven races very different from each others and quite original when we compare to what we generally see. There is for every tastes : graceful Elves, sensual Castanis (look like demons), fierce Amani (a dragonkin race), wise Baraka (the giant's offspring), boring humans and the two cutest races ever : the Popori and the Elin (spirits of nature) which are respectively a little fat animal faced character and a girl neko.
The character creation is very rich and propose a heavy facial customization. The body is not alterable.



The eight classes are classical, but it cannot feel the same anyway, considering how you will have to fight : warrior and lancer for the tanks, slayer and berserker for the melee DPS, sorcerer and archer for the ranged DPS,  priest and mystic for the healer and group support.
Every class has their own flavor and the combat animation is breathtaking. See how a warrior is dodging attacks while jumping above the monster, how a sorcerer is almost dancing while casting its spells, how the character fall and die, trying to get up a last time.
The customization of each class is a bit limited. It's not in Tera that you will perform different roles with the same character. The talent tree proposes three paths : offensive, defensive and support that you can custom with a glyph system which enhances the skills that you choose. I am not disappointed by the lack of freedom, I like that each game propose something different and if I want class customization I think Rift is the best game so far.

The game will proposes instances and raid, PVP, quest, a complete system of crafting, and many things that I've not discovered yet! I need to investigate more about the Lore and the political action players can take in the game. I think they can form their own factions and fight each others.
The world is really beautiful and the graphism have an excellent quality. A friend of mine, who had been lucky enough to play the stress Korean beta told me that the world had twice the size of World of Warcraft, which is quite huge to be honest!



I cannot wait to play and solve my most anxious dilemma at the moment : what class and what race will I play? Everything seem so tempting! I am usually healer, but with a true action combat, everything can change and I might enjoy as much a melee class for once. The day I have a beta key, I promise to invade the stream with some nice sequences of my playing, and I will make dance a woman elf just for you, boys! Waiting that moment, enjoy already the videos and the screenshots I've linked.

Now I just need to persuade my friends to come play with me and build a new community!

I don't know. Sure it looks cute. Im sure it's going to be like Aion, fun for about a month. At least to me.
I got to admit, some of the spell animations are good looking!

I'm following very very closely every news about Tera, and I'll add soon new thread concerning classes and lore.
I'm also planing to make a Whitestar Tera guild (as I said in GW2 thread, there will atleast have a guild for all those who want to try out, or play seriously this game)

More I see about the game play, more it seem fun, new, and exiting. The fight will really be intence, wil requiere good skills, good positioning and a good team play. When you imagine that, for example, the Lancer can block attacks for everyone who hide behind him and his shield, I guess that let you imagine how a boss figth can be
PVP will be kick ass too (and I'll probably sucks)

I've discovered a bit more about the "social" features the game bring. The political system will allow some players to win election and rule a piece of land, gaining advantages obviously. This will drive the players to really be involved deeply into the Lore, and build their own "server" story.

When will it come out? Or when is open beta available?
And will there be room for RP aswell besides the questing and this political system?

Attention - the following post is plagued with my usuall miss-typing:]

TERA has been a great disscusion topic back in my old Lineage 2 clan and basically when it comes out I'm sure it will atrract a lot of my former clannies. The thing it is indeed unpgraded version of Lineage 2 with many new features.
I don't know how much of good things will the game copy from L2 (basically the development team of the BlueHole studios are former NCSoft employes working on Lineage 3). But the biggest difference I'm looking forward would be open PvP not-limited to factions. Hope they keep it there. I assure you that tere is no better option how to react on annoying people then to kill them in game.
I remember my sweet moments when I stabed one annoying loot-stealer and the the half of nearby village was hunting me in the nearby forest since PKs were 100% sure to drop their items!...was fun and thrill in fact.
The server politivcs were a big issus on it's self the limited amount of castles and so many guiilds wanting them were a sources of epics sieges with hundres of players on both sides (and huge lags someyime as well:) ....but L2 had realy outdated engine in fact).
So the expectaions I'm putting into this will be like good old Lineage-like game with few WoW-o-Europish features like the talents, and prehaps a bit less amount of grinding. Hm, prehaps a game where a casual person like could reach the max level soonest in six months. ) At least it makes you quite entertained and feeling like progresing.

But what I find mostly interesting is finaly start in some fresh game with a fresh comunity...that be cool.. so In fact I guess I'm on a good way to buy the game when it comes out!

And I hope the game will include much more of dificulty when solo questing these days I find it almost impossible to die in WoW....no elite mobs not no hard areas...like they used to be all around and out-leveling content. If you know what I mean...those small but important victories you make:-]

When will it come out? Or when is open beta available?

The game is out in Korea since january and is about to get his first expansion.
In Europe I think there is a very closed beta going on since march. No news of open beta yet.
The game should probably be released in autumn.

Concerning RP, I don't know if there will have any specific realm for RP, but the Lore is nice. I'm a bit affraid though that the RP will end with lot of ERP, or bad manga RP.

I can already foreseen that some wicked mind will try to abused poor Popori with some nasty ERP plot. ....on a more serious note games indeed tendo be released here with the start of autumn.

Heh, nice trailer:-) Some places just in fact remind me of places I saw in this "Hack .sign" anime which's story was takaing place in an online MMORPG called "The world".

I am looking forward to TERA with great anticipation. I used to play WoW, but left it not long after the LFG system was introduced. My best time in there has deffinetly been back in the early days, and I am hoping TERA will bring back some of the excitement I felt back then, ofcourse along with a completely awesome new type of MMO combat ^^.

played WoW for quite a while thinking sometime remembering the good ol' Crossroads and the battles we used to have in the foothills between Tarrens mill and Southshore.

As for the political system :

I expect that control over teritories/forts/whatever will be a major issue regarding server politics and will be a constant generator of activity. Clans/Guilds will for aliances to perform at....perhaps sieges.......major backstabing and animosity will appera, constat conflict....open hunting of players of enemy guilds on the open PvP servers....just exactly like you can expect IRL.

....very similar to the system of Lineage 2 I played before. ...after all the developers are renegade NCsoft people and the ideas migrated with them.

.......So I tell youthere will be a lot of meaning into being in a guild, getting better and most importantly there will be a reason to be sociable with the rest of server population....you never know when you could need an alied guild to come to help you. :-]

...so far my expectations.

....as for myself If I come to play TERA then I'll be on RP-PVP-Something Server.

I've played EvE for quiet some time. From my experience; politcal systems are funky. My alliance used to have spies in other alliances telling us everything they plan etc.

As you say Arulan, It's very important with alliances and not to get hostile on the server.

We will see how Whitestar will place itself. i'm naturaly a peaceful person who tempt to like be friend with everyone. But i guess it will not be possible here, and we will have ennemies.
Hahaha, we will see how everything will go. I'm really impatient to see how things will happen on a server scale.

Concerning the server, we don't know if there will be any roleplay server yet, but if there is not, i'm planing to gather the RP(semi RP) community on one server (PVP).I've spoken about it with Envyfea and this can be organised on the fansite A2Tera.

Haha, I'm getting really impatient over here too. We wantz the game now!

I doubt we'll see any RP servers, but gathering an "unofficial" RP server would be really cool, idd.

I am actualy pretty positive we will see RP servers. The american community held a vote poll, that showed 20% of the playerbase is interested in roleplaying. It would occour very strange to me if a lore-heavy game like TERA opened without acces to dedicated RP servers

I am looking very much forward to the political system, it will be legendary to have an endgame mechanic like that to promote guild alliances and guild strife. I also understand there will be special epic quest chains that are only available to guilds who win the election and get their leader promoted to Vanarch.

Ooh yeah! That will be such a great thing to have Whitestar as Vanarch and in addition a super guild house!!

Let's continue our plans with the guild in the brainstorming post, so we can share our ideas and hope without reveal our tactics to dominate Arborea *cough cough*
